Private Lesson Payments Policy
Please read the following paragraph carefully as the procedure for private lesson payments has been completely revamped from prior years.
All payments for private lessons must be made through the finance office. All checks should be made out to Kellenberg Memorial High School. Your cancelled check will be your receipt. If you pay in cash to Kellenberg, please ask for a receipt from the finance office, as this will be your only confirmation of payment.
The finance office will be sending out invoices shortly with specific instructions for payment. Please be advised that, under no circumstance, will a student be allowed to take a lesson if he/she is in arrears. However, lesson fees will still apply. The total lesson fee due for each student for the 2017-2018 school year will be $650.00. While you may pay the entire amount at once we encourage you to simply follow your periodic invoices.
Private Lesson Procedures
Lessons are scheduled on a rotating basis. The students will schedule themselves each week for their lesson the following week.
Students must not sign up during gym or lunch.
Students should not sign up for a class where they know there will be a test (students are supposed to have at least a week's notice for any test.
If there is a quiz, the student should take the quiz and then come to the lesson.
Study halls are the best time to schedule a lesson. If the study hall time is not available, the student will schedule during a regular class period.
When scheduling lessons during regular class periods the student should not schedule against the same class from week to week. They should move their lesson time around so they don't repeatedly impact the same class(es).
Lessons are given on the hour and on the half hour and do not take up an entire class period. Student may leave a class for the purpose of attending a lesson. They may also arrive late to a class if they have been at a lesson.
There will be a sign-in sheet maintained by the lesson teacher so that the attendance office can reconcile any classes where the student may have been marked absent but was really at a lesson. The faculty is very supportive of the program and will work with students to cover any missed work. But it is the students' responsibility to get any missed assignments or notes.
Missed Lesson Make-up Policy
A missed lesson is defined as any lesson a student is present in school for but does not attend. Private lessons that are not attended because a student is legally absent from school are not considered "missed" but should be made up during the trimester. If a student misses a lesson, he/she should see the private lesson teacher immediately to schedule a make-up. If the student fails to speak to his/her private lesson teacher within one week of the missed lesson, that lesson will not be made up. Lessons for prior trimesters cannot be made up. Missed lessons will still incur the normal lesson fee. Make-up lessons will not be charged for. Should a student be present in school and miss their makeup lesson they will not be allowed to reschedule it.
Some practical considerations
Students will sign up from Monday - Thursday in the current week for lessons the following week. Thursday evening into Friday I gather all the sign up sheets, type them up and resolve any problems. At the end of the day on Friday I post those schedules which become the new weeks schedule. Along with those I post blank sign-up sheets for the following week and the process repeats.
Our more diligent students will come in before homeroom on Monday morning to sign up as the sheets are blank and they will have their pick of the good time slots. Some even wait for the sheets to be posted after school on Friday and do it then.
If a student misses a lesson, he or she must see the teacher as soon as possible, but no later than one week from the date of the missed lesson to find a make-up time. It is the student's responsibility to schedule the make-up. Repeatedly missed lessons cannot be made up.
I have found that students who are new to the school initially find the process a bit confusing and stressful. This gives way very quickly to comfort as they gain experience with the process.
If your student is having a problem finding a good time for his lesson, please have him/her see me or Mrs. Hsu. I'm sure we can help.
